Getting Home!

So you've got to Monte Carlo what are the options about getting home.

Well, you could stay there for ever!

The ferry tickets have no fixed return on them, which means you are not committed to when you return.

Your choices are:

  • dash back along the Autoroutes

  • dash back across country

  • redo do the route backwards!

  • explore other roads used by the Monte Carlo Rally.

  • explore the region

  • have a leisurely drive home

  • or possibly take the train home? A Motorrail Service operates from Nice (10-15 miles along the coast) to Calais. The problem is that it stops operating early in September. There is good news there is a daily service from Nice to Paris. The drive from Paris to Calais is about three hours. The train leaves Nice at 8.50pm and arrives in Paris at about 7.50am. If you visit www.railsavers.com there is more information. The prices they show include ferry fares etc. If we can get any more information on prices etc., they will be posted here.

Update

Train Home…..

We have spoken with various companies who handle bookings for the French Motorail Service from Nice to Paris. The operators do not give group discounts. The most approachable company has been Railsavers.  If you wish to make use of the train service then we would recommend you make use of their services.

You can book via www.railsavers.com or contact Mark Burtonwood and his direct line is 01253 359 505 or alternatively on 0870 750 70 70 (the main switchboard number) If you prefer he can be contacted on mark@railsavers.com - this may be easier if people are at work during the day!

Please quote the following reference numbers:-

- MC2B (Mini Cooper 2 Berth) - ball park figure would be £456 - based on 2 adults sharing a 2 berth compartment

- MC4B (Mini Cooper 4 Berth) - ball park figure would be £416 - based on 2 adults sharing with 2 other individuals in a 4 berth compartment (cannot guarantee they would be with fellow Mini Cooper travellers)

- MC6B (Mini Cooper 6 Berth) - ball park figure would be £338 - based on 2 adults sharing with 4 other individuals in a 6 berth compartment (cannot guarantee they would be with fellow Mini Cooper travellers).

Whilst it is possible to turn up and get a booking on the day and it might be cheaper, but you cannot guarantee a place. This service does get busy at the weekends.
