2004 represents the 40th
Anniversary of Paddy Hopkirk and Henry Liddon winning the Monte Carlo Rally
in 1964 in 33EJB.
To commemorate this anniversary in the
Mini’s 45th
year the Mini Cooper Register is arranging a tour to Monte Carlo to celebrate
this anniversary.
It is the intention of the Register to
follow the route of the 64 Monte as closely as possible. As with the Montes
of this period, starting points were all over Europe with routes converging
on Reims in 1964. Then competitors followed the same route down to Monte
Carlo.
In 1964 the UK starters commenced their
event in Glasgow and headed down to near Southampton before going across to
Dover to cross the channel.
The event
will be running from the September 26th - 30th 2004. We are starting the run
on Sunday morning from Dover before crossing to France and arriving in Monte Carlo on
Thursday.
The cost is £900 per car, with two
occupants. That will includes ferry fares,
hotels for the event, evening meals (depending on Hotel location), road book
and rally plates.
We are aiming to run with 60 cars,
preference will be give to MCR members and those using classic Minis.
Members with new MINI’s are also invited.
